Haiti: Open for Business now! says new "President"
MC Endeavors Director U.S. Ambassador Lewis Lucke Views Saturday's Inauguration of President Martelly as a Meaningful Turning Point for Haiti05/17/2011 | 08:40 am
MC Endeavors, Inc. (PinkSheets: MSMY) "This is a new Haiti that is open for business now" declared newly sworn-in President Michel Martelly. "We are going to change Haiti" he promised during his inauguration speech on Saturday. Punctuated by applause and cheers, Martelly made it clear that a top priority will be to restore confidence in government and then he served notice to the country's police and judicial authorities: "No more injustice."
MC Endeavors' Director U.S. Ambassador Lewis Lucke viewed the inauguration of President Martelly as "An optimistic time for all Haitians and its many international partners and a meaningful turning point in Haiti's history." Lucke went on to state that, "So many Haitians fervently hope that President Martelly will be the leader voted into power by the people who can fulfill the needed leadership role that will encourage foreign governments to accelerate the release of reconstruction assistance that has been sidelined during the long election process."
An important invited guest at the inauguration was U.S. President Bill Clinton, the U.N. envoy who co-chairs the IHRC (the Interim Haiti Reconstruction Commission) which was set up after the earthquake to monitor the purse strings of some $10 billion in pledged aid.
MC Endeavors CEO Tim Algier emphasized that, "We welcome the opportunity to really make a difference in addressing the homeless situation by being part of the reconstruction team of firms that will be building new affordable, permanent housing for almost 700,000 Haitians who have been living in tent cities for over 16 months now. The American Red Cross, other international organizations and other donors will be proposing permanent housing and other reconstruction programs that total many millions of dollars over the next few months.

So while over a million Haitians spent the past 16 months living in the dirt, Lewis Lucke has been collectiing money from his buddies within the Clinton and Haitian mafia (sorry business) circle... Yep! Haiti is definitely OPEN for business now!

This legalisation of corruption reached a new milestone last December when one Lewis Lucke, a long-time US Agency for International Development (USAID) official turned influence-peddler, sued a consortium of firms operating in Haiti for $492,000, for breach of contract. As Lucke would have it (sorry!), he was promised $30,000 a month, plus incentives, to use his influence to secure contracts for these nice fellas. He got them $20m worth of contracts, but they cut him off after two months. The defendants in the case are Ashbritt, a US contractor with a questionable track record, and the GB Group, one of the largest Haitian conglomerates. Together, they formed the Haiti Recovery Group, which they incorporated in the Cayman Islands, to bid on reconstruction contracts.
Lucke was well-positioned for the job, having formerly been in charge of the multibillion dollar reconstruction effort in Haiti for the US government. (He was also previously the USAID Iraq mission director; we know how that reconstruction turned out.) His lawsuit states that when he worked for USAID, "He met with Haitian officials, former United States Presidents Bill Clinton and George W Bush, the state department, World Bank, and other participants …" He was then hired by Ashbritt to, among other things, make "strategic introductions to key stakeholders, organisers and brokers of Haitian recovery efforts …" Bill Clinton and George W Bush established the Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund to help Haiti "build back better", and Clinton is co-chair of the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission (IHRC), which has met about six times since the earthquake, and has been widely criticised for its lack of Haitian representation in decision-making.
