" The United States Government has wished to make it appear that it was forced on purely humane grounds to intervene in Haiti because of the tragic overthrow and death of President Vilbrun Guillaume, July 27–8, 1915, and that this government has been compelled to keep a military force in Haiti since that time to pacify the country maintain order. The fact is that for nearly a year before the coup d'état which overthrew Guillaume, the United States had been bringing pressure on Haiti to compel that country to submit to American control".

"Ten decades ago, under the 1915 U.S. Occupation of Haiti the great American scholar and NAACP leader James Weldon Johnson worked tirelessly to counter the racist arguments that an intellectually backward but politically and economically-powerful sector of U.S. society used to justify the occupation of Haiti.

Disturbingly, the current occupation, a desired and planned outcome, was also predicated on racist and flawed premises..."

James Weldon JOHNSON is the composer of ""LIFT EVERY VOICE AND SING "" the unofficial ANTHEM of the AFRICAN AMERICAN CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT.
His reporting in ""THE CRISIS"" the JOURNAL of the NAACP showed the horrors of the American OCCUPATION of Haiti.
His reporting provoked the mobilization of the African American intellectual class against the OCCUPATION principally in the nascent HARLEM RENAISSANCE.

THE CRISIS showed the pictures of ""CACOS"" whose hands were chopped by the MARINES and their haitian lackeys!
