HLLN Urgent Action Alert - October 28, 2007

Maryse Narcisse has been disappeared, taken by armed men in front of
her house,
as of yesterday, Saturday October 27, 2007 between 7 and 8 pm.

According to sources HLLN spoke to in Haiti, the police have been
apprised and
are working on the matter.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.

Dr. Maryse Narcisse was appointed spokesperson for President Aristide
after the
2004 coup d'etat and is currently an executive member of the Ruling
Lavalas
Executive Committee for Fanmi Lavalas. She was forceably taken, by a
group of
armed men, as she reached her home, after leaving a meeting with So Ann
and
others of Fanmi Lavalas. Sources report they abducted her and rushed
off in
their car with her.

Initially there was no ransom demand and it was a clear political
removal. But,
according to our latest information, a ransom demand has been made for
$300,000
and the criminals are said to sound to be in a hurry... Perhaps the
sudden
request is a cover to confuse and mask the political nature of the
dissappearance, as it was when Lovinsky was dissappeared. Time will
tell. HLLN
hopes and prays that the Dr. Maryse Narcisse abduction is not a
political
dissappearance as with the Lovinsky case and that Dr. Maryse Narcisse
will be
safely returned, after payment of a ransom, to her loved ones and to
continue
her advocacy work defending Haitian rights and the poor majority
against
imperialism, UN occupation, a racist global economic system and
dictatorship.

Non Ami revelation fowom sa pap preche violence et nou pap pran okenn lot direction. Je pense qu'il y a des moments de choc , de colère, d'angoisse dans la vie de chacun de nous. Cela ne signifie en aucun cas que nous passons à une autre vitesse.
Ce qui se passe en Haiti actuellement est repugnante. J'ai beaucoup de difficultés à comprendre qu'un pays aussi pauvre comme Haiti dont les leaders politiques ou économiques font kidnapper leurs rivaux pour arriver à leurs fins politiques. Ce faisant, ils nuisent à la réputation et la stabilité tant économique et politique d'Haiti. Sont-ils des hommes ou des animaux qui destabilisent un pays en mal de devenir normal? Je me pose cetet question.

Bref, j'avais tellement de beaux projets pour ce pays et je commence serieusement à regarder ailleurs.

J'ai lu un programme en bio-psycho-social ou on apprenait à des élèves de primaire comment contrôler leurs émotions, comment ne pas répondre de la violence à la violence. Dans les ateliers qui ont duré plusieurs jours, le programme a été une réussite totale. Les jeunes ne répondaient pas quand un autre jeune les poussait, les frappait. Cependant, une fois que l'atelier se termine et que les jeunes font face à la vraie réalité, ils se querellaient et se bataillaient dans la cour de cette même école. Pourquoi ? Les chercheurs ont trouvé la réponse dans la culture et dans les valeurs apprises aux jeunes depuis leur enfance.

Révélation. Dès notre jeune âge, nos parents nous a inculqués des notions de défense de soi . Il ne fait aucun doute que ces notions de défense de soi sont ancrées dans nos valeurs.

Évidemment , il est faux de dire ou de croire que si quelqu’un vous frappe que vous allez vous laisser faire . A moins que vous estimez que vous ne pourrez vous battre contre lui. Ça c'est une autre chose. SI Mike Tyson vous frappe , je suis certain que vous n'allez pas essayer de lui rendre le pataswel qu'il vous a infligé.

Pour illustrer ce que nous avons appris à la maternelle voici un exemple, votre enfant de 7 ans qui va à l'école et qu'il vous apprend qu 'un de ses camarades lui frappe dans la cour de l'école . Allez-vous lui demander de se laisser faire pour que tous les autres enfants lui prennent pour un lâche et surtout pour un jeu quand ils ont envie de frapper sur quelqu'un ? Merci de me répondre.

if it is true that you intend to have a revolutionary movement, then you should not be too attached to a name that has become a burden. evolutionary history shows that entities that fail to adjust, and camouflage their fragile existence go extinct.
it is time to realize that the name itsef puts your future in jeopardy. it is best to lay low for now. Retreat is not cowardice, it is the strategy of the wise and careful planners of victory in battle.
One thing that I have always reproached your leaders is that you guys are more vocal than you are thoughtful.
I am a sympathizer of the initial lavalas movement, but not necessarily a supporter of the later party which has relied more on rhetoric than on intelligent political planning.
what happened to you guys could have easily been avoided if brain was used instead of mouth.
popular support is not sufficient for revolutionary change, what has been lacking in our camp is the active participation of intellectual theorists.
if we have had intellectual theorists in our camp, we would have known that there are very few manageable entries from the dominican republic for military raids; and therefore, we would have taken the preparatory measures to counteract any small military incursion.
also, we would have chosen strategic positions to build police stations if we had taken into consideration the volatile history of our nation.
if we have had intellectual theorists, we would have known that organizing counterprotests on the same day as the opposition protests would be a disaster waiting to happen.
knowing that the private media are controlled by the opposition, we would have prohibited protesters of any political ideology from marching through the commercial district. why? because the people that were heavily against us were owners of businesses in that district, and therefore any massive theft or vandalism would certainly be blamed on us. it does not matter whether professional thieves would tend to infiltrate marching protests as a masking blaket to steal.
lastly, we have failed as a party to make any constructive self-criticism. we would blame the entire mess on the other while we are equally at fault.
if we are to survive and thrive, we will need major internal retructuration; and if not, we will collapse under our weight.
remember, a massive structure that is not stable is a threat to its own existence.

Onè la sosyete,

HLLN has confirmed that Dr. Maryse Narcisse was liberated by her abductors this
morning, along with her friend, Delano Morel. A ransom was paid for both.

Dr. Narcisse was kidnapped at gunpoint in front of her house, by a group of
armed men, along with another passenger in her car, Mr. Delano Morel, on
Saturday, October 26, 2007.

She returned safely to her family and as of this writing, we are told she is
meeting with President Rene Preval discussing her ordeal of the last 4 days of
captivity.

The family wishes to thank all who expressed concern and made phone calls,
circulated our Urgent Action Alert and those who assisted them financially. A
press release will be issued on her safe return.

HLLN especially wishes to thank, Amnesty International for stepping forward so
