Orlan, Faitian Consortium today announced the launch of an urgent hurricane relief effos conditions continue to worsen in the aftermath of Hurricanes Fana,
"Many towns are flooded and are in dire need of assistance. Transportation to and from flooded areas remain difficult, if not impossible, to access. We must reach these areas with humanitarian aid immediately in order to save lives," said Haitian Consortium Chairperson Enock Gustave.
The Haitian Consortium relief teams and development experts indicate that the storms affected more than 800,000 and left over 500 people killed and missing. Additionally, another 100,000 persons were left homeless or displaced. These conditions have exacerbated the extreme poverty in Haiti, causing immense shortages of food, water, clothing and other basic necessities. The possible of the spread of disease is also a concern as unsanitary conditions prevail.
The Haitian Consortium’s visiting team and the Disaster Relief Committee have prepared a priority list of the food, medicine, water, clothing, hygienic supplies and other items that are needed to address the urgent, immediate relief effort in Haiti. The list is available at www.haitianconsortium.com
"We urge you to visit the site and make a donation immediately. We need to save lives and alleviate this large-scale human suffering," Gustave added.
The donations will be deployed to Haiti with the assistance of the Haitian Shipping Line Inc, which has generously donated partial cargo space, according to Gustave.
