Spanish queen visits Haitian development projects

Queen Sofia of Spain is touring development projects in Haiti that her country helped fund to aid the impoverished nation.

She is scheduled to fly over a mountain reforestation project aboard a U.N. helicopter.

She later expects to visit fishermen and market vendors supported by the Spanish government in the southern city of Jacmel.

Queen Sofia also met privately with President Rene Preval on Wednesday as part of her three-day visit.

She plans to meet with refugees in the storm-lashed city of Gonaives on Thursday.

The queen earlier had toured similar projects in the Dominican Republic.
