Call for medics to volunteer in Haiti

Doctors, nurses and other medical professionals are being urged to volunteer for a life-changing trip to the poorest country in the western world.

Haven, a new NGO set up by entrepreneur Leslie Buckley, aims to build houses and start community development programmes in Haiti.

The organisation seeks at least 10 medical professionals to join its first ‘Build-It-Week’ this Halloween.

“Haiti has a very basic healthcare infrastructure and where we’ll be building is very remote, so we need to bring our own medical team. I’m hoping that the medical community will hear my call and decide to make this life-changing trip,” said Buckley.

Haven is looking for 250 volunteers in total, including construction workers, caterers and cleaners. It aims to build 40 homes during the first ‘Build-It-Week’, and 125 this year in total.

Volunteers must raise at least €4,000 and be reasonably fit. They will be staying in tented, military-style accommodation in Ouanaminthe, in north-east Haiti.
