Storm-ravaged Haiti blocks U.S. deportations while it rebuilds
Storm-ravaged nation rebuffs U.S., says it can't handle citizens' return

Haiti is saying "No" to the United States.

The Caribbean country is blocking the U.S. government from deporting Haitians. The move is clogging immigration detention centers, stalling the return of Haitians ordered out of the country and forcing U.S. immigration authorities to use a diplomatic loophole: pushing Haitians to get their own travel documents, such as passports, so they can be sent home.

Haiti took the stand after a series of brutal storms lashed the island last summer and after repeatedly asking the United States for, and being denied, what's known as temporary protected status. The status would allow Haitians in this country illegally to stay and work temporarily. Haitian officials say the country needs to rebuild and can't handle the return of its citizens.

The result: Deportations to Haiti have dropped about 89 percent, from an average of 156 in the months before the storms to about 17 a month since October.
"We're not processing travel documents until further notice," said Ralph LaTortue, the Haitian consul general in Miami.

Across the country, more than 30,000 Haitians have been ordered to leave, with about 600 of those in detention as of Feb. 9, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Additionally, 243 were under a form of house arrest and being monitored with electronic ankle bracelets.

"The lack of travel documents increases the amount of time a removable alien spends in detention and decreases the availability of detention space to house other removable aliens who may be dangerous to the community," said Nicole Navas, a spokeswoman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Last summer, four tropical storms devastated Haiti, washing away roads, bridges and crops. Hundreds died, and hundreds of thousands lost their homes. Since then, Haitian President Rene Preval, South Florida elected officials and advocates renewed their request for protected status.

A halt to deportations in mid-September gave them hope that their appeal was heard. But immigration officials resumed flights in early December. Two weeks later, then- President George W. Bush's administration denied the request for protected status.

"Haiti is still trying to recover," LaTortue said. "It's going to be a very long rebuilding process."

He said the consulate will wait until Preval gives the go-ahead to issue travel papers. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has made up to 200 requests for them since the storms, he said.

Phillippe "Bob" Louis Jeune, president of the Haitian Citizen United Taskforce, said he hears daily from many Haitians facing pressure from immigration officials.

"I tell them don't sign anything until we get further word from Washington," Jeune said.

M’pat vle fe komante tro vit sou sije sa paske m’pat gen tout information ke’m te bezwen.

Mwen dako avek konsil la paske nou trouve ke 30,000 ayisyen pou U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ICE) depote nan peyi a trop.

jan prezidan Preval di a ekonomi peyi a pakab sipote 30,000 nouvo veni sa yo nan sosyete apre 4 cyklon ki soti ravaje nou an.
Prezidan te vinn Washington pou mande yon $100 million dolla pou konplete bidje 2009 la, yopa bali anyen.
Donk gen yon jeu de fos kap fet la.

Kom se taxpaye nou ye, nou ta prefere ke lajan sa al jwen gouvenman ayisyen an olye ke li sevi pou okipe, nourri e loje imigran ayisyen nan prizon kay blan yo.

Gen yon bri kap kouri ki di ke ajan ICE yo itilize « profiling » e yon system de « quota » pou poze la patte sou imigran.
Chak ekip ajan ICE gen yon quota de 1,000 illegal imigran pou yo enrejistre e sanble ke mesye sa yo te an reta sou quota yo donk yo tap poze la pat sou nenpot imigran yon jwen.
Se konsa tou gen anpil moun ke yo arete ki « legal » nan peyi blan.

Gen yon group activist panyol ki rele CASA ki mande pou yon investigasyon fet e mande gouvenman Obama, secrete Department Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano pou’l voye je sou sa..

"Government agents should not be in the business of judging people based on the color of their skin, clothing and employment, which is what seems to have occurred here," the Rev. Simon Bautista Betances, vice president of CASA's board of directors said Wednesday.

Gen chans pou anpil nan 30,000 ayisyen ki sou list depote sa yo rete nan peyi Eta-Zini.
Gen 660 ki nan prizon pou krim kout la sosiyete, 243 ki lakay yo paske yo gen pitit kif et nan peyi blan e aktivist yo pavle pou imigrasyon separe yo de fanmi yo.
Gen apepre 29,000 + ilegal imigrant ayisyen kap sikile toujou nan peyi blan.

Kom li illegal pou imigran fe mariaj d’afè, fok mesye dam sa yo kouri vit tombe d’amou ak yon sitwayen ameriken e fe yon mariaj d’amou rapid e grennen 2 e 3 timoun pou reguilarize e regle papye yo presse, presse. Se pa fot nou, se la vie a ki mande sa!!

Fok nou kontinye fe presyon sou gouvenman Obama pou'l bay peyi d'Ayiti yon chans e kenbe fre ak se imigran nou yo pou yon tigout tan anko.
