We do not want welfare;we want work
It is with gratitude that I read that the American Congress is considering the "Hope Act"which could create more than 25000 jobs for the haitian workers. As a Haitian American I applaud the Congressman and Congresswomen who are fighting for the approval of this bill.It is not enough to say that we want democracy in the hemisphere; it is important that the wealth of this world be shared by all the inhabitants of this planet.
Every human being needs to eat , to sleep in a decent house;to receive an education and to have acces to health care .These basic needs must be provided by all goverments in order for peace to flourish on this earth. We appreciate the funds provided to the haitian government by the american taxpayers.but it is evident nowadays ,the people of haiti never benefited form this aid.It is only the bureaucrats, the corrupt government employees who partake the money. No haitian wants to leave his or her country in a small boat to come to the United States as an illegal immigrant, even those wo leave the country with their green card are not very happy to leave their parents ,children ,friends behind. They come because their country does not offer them any opportunity to make a living. To control the flow of illegal immigrants in the United States the government should help in a manner that the majority of the people of the third world countries benefit form the love and the charity of this great american people.
It is time that we understand that nobody hates the american people;it is certain acts that are despised by the people who are fighting for justice and opportunities for all.We are all in the same boat, therefore it is imperative that we recognize that all human beings have needs;and it is to the benefits of all that we share the wealth of this world. It is not charity the people of the third world countries need; it is work, education ,health care and security. The haitians are proud and very grateful people.I applaud and implore the Comgress to give them a chance to work so they can rebuild their country;they are not lazy; they can do it if given the opportunities.
