The presidency of Barack Obama poses a particular problematic for us as African people, not only because we see it as a historic victory against all odds and one we helped shape and proudly share, but also because we have developed a compelling ethnic and ethical sense of obligation to secure and expand it. This has led too many of us to believe any criticism of Obama is selfdestructive betrayal at best and at worst ethical heresy, brotherhate and willfully aiding and abetting the enemy. Moreover, our sense of commitment to Obama is deepened when rightwing or even progressive Whites criticize him for what we read as their own racial, racialized, racist or mistaken reasons.

Even when he transforms himself from being a compromising president to them into a reprimanding preacher to us, we applaud him, excuse him and urge understanding of his delicate and difficult position, and counsel patience with his problematic reversals and delays concerning the progressive promises he made.

Very interesting analysis.Reading it reminds me of Dezagreman.;particularly the following paragraph.

"It is said there are no serious social justice claims now, only by gone grievances from the bitter ,too ethnicallly to see what social miracles Obama's election has wrought and is yet to reveal. Thus we are to forget the history and historical costs and consequences of our oppression in all forms;deny the pernicious presence and brutal reality of racial differences in wealth power and status on almost every level and focus on a future of hope without foundation in past and present practices."

I think if one changes Obama's name to Duvalier an objective political analyst could have written this article in 1958 in haiti.most of the time you heard people talk about the ascendancy of Duvalier in haiti negates the claim of those who denounce social injustices, discriminations ,oppression in haiti. They don't want anybody to write about the past.It is like the election of Mandela in South africa erases all the malfeasances of those who practice apartheid in South Africa.

Another important revelation of President Obama's presidency is the futility of electing a black man President of the Unites States. Those who is driving the car will not give the will to a Black man regardless of his title. We must realize that political power without economical power is just an illusion. If Obama has been elected president of the United states it is because the presidency is really an irrelevant function. At the end of the Obama's presidency one should not be surprised that nothing has changed really for the poors and the disenfranchised people ;as a matter of fact their conditions could become more miserable.

One can just look at the unemployment picture in the United States to understand this truth.More people are unemployed today than for the past 20 years at a time when the Corporations are bathing in cash.More people are loosing their homes because they can not pay their mortgage. The Republicans want to cut the social benefits in order to reduce a deficit they had created. One must ask this question: what did the election of Barack Obama to the presidency of the United states do for the average american?I voted for Obama ,but i wonder if the average american would not be better off if Hillary Clinton had won the election.

Obama is like a trapeze artist who is trying to go from point A to point B on a high rope in an act that he doesn't have any control. Do I regret that I voted for President Obama?Of course not.It was a duty for all black people in america to do so .Will i vote for him again ;of course i will .but do I expect any improvement in the lives for the poors during his second term i doubt it very much because the presidency, whether in haiti or in the United States is an overvalued function.Only those who control the economy have the real power.
