The U.S. installs biometric equipment in Dominican-Haiti border
DAJABON.- The Armed Forces and the United States embassy yesterday installed biometric equipment in this border town, to detect the contraband of guns, drugs, merchandise and the illegal traffic of undocumented people.

The equipment was installed in the Customs building during a ceremony headed by U.S. ambassador Robert Fannin and Armed Forces Pedro Antonio Peña.

The American embassy also contributed US$350,000 for more equipment, and to train the specialized personnel that’ll handle them.

Fannin said the new equipment will help create a safer border for the Dominican and Haitian governments and constitutes an example of the U.S. support in the fight against all types of contraband in Dominican Republic.

Peña thanked the diplomat for the donation, and said the country will continue reinforcing the security systems to improve the border controls.
