Haiti homes in a hurry
The Shelter Haiti team has raised money needed to complete building its first 130 shelters to be shipped to the disaster-stricken country and is seeking volunteers to help assemble sections of the shelters over the next two weeks.
The shelters are scheduled to be shipped over June 5.
Once delivered to Haiti, the sections can be put together in about two hours to provide modular structures that will provide shelter for up to eight people each.
Volunteers are asked to bring their own hammers, saws, air guns and water or refreshments.
The building will continue all this week and next in the warehouse in anticipation of shipping finished shelters on June 5 from Georgetown.
Shelter Haiti has a goal of building 1,001 of the modular homes for the disaster-stricken country.
The custom-designed houses accommodate up to eight people.
Once sections are constructed, they will be stacked, banded and shipped to Haiti, where each home can be assembled on-site in less than two hours.
