***Please note location***
On behalf of CSIS and the Inter-American Dialogue, we are pleased to invite you to join us on Wednesday, January 31st, 2007 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. for a roundtable discussion with Ambassador Edmond Mulet, who has been leading the United Nations Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) since last May. The meeting will take place at CSIS, 1800 K Street NW , in Conference Room B1.
Nearly a year has passed since Haitian President René Préval was elected, the new parliament has been in place for more than six months, and local and municipal elections were completed last December. The 8,800-troop-strong United Nations peacekeeping mission current mandate expires in mid-February 2007, although it is likely to be extended. In recent months, continued gang violence
and kidnappings have deepened concerns about Haiti ’s internal security and its political and economic prospects. Our discussion will provide a timely opportunity to review the situation in Haiti , explore the challenges facing the UN mission, and assess what the key priorities should be in the coming period.
We hope that you will be able to join us for this important discussion. Please let us know if you will be able to be with us by responding to this email or replying to Tanya Primiani at tprimiani@csis.org or (202) 775-3274.
Sincerely,
