Science education is key to rebuilding Haiti
Report by scientific association argues that science education is key to rebuilding HaitiBy Associated Press, Published: September 15
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — An international group of scientists says science and education are key to rebuilding Haiti from last year’s crippling earthquake.
The American Association for the Advancement of Science says in a report that science education should be provided both in and outside schools.
The study also urges scientists from outside Haiti to lay out policies that can help promote science education in the Caribbean country.
The panel will bring ideas to Port-au-Prince on Monday when it meets with Haitian scientists, engineers and scholars. Its 35-page report was released Thursday.
Haitian authorities estimate 300,000 people died in the January 2010 earthquake. Many died because buildings were shoddily made.

Re: Science education is key to rebuilding Haiti
I am glad that some scientists are recognizing the fact that there is no development without an education that forms good engineers, scientists and entreprenors who can produce goods and services for the people.A country that imports even food for its people can not and will never be a developped country without reforming its schools system.
We need to change the subjects that we're teaching our children in our schools. The new Minister of Education should be a pragmatist Technocrat who understands the meaning of the verb educate. This important Minister should not be a politician, but a true technocrat experienced in the field of education.I wish President martelly will choose Dr Desgraff. If the slogan :"le pouvoir aux plus capables"means something then let 's hire "la creme de la creme of our country."
