Women who have headed national governments in the Americas
_1974: Vice President Isabel Peron becomes president on death of her husband, President Juan Peron. She is overthrown in a 1976 _
1979:Bolivian legislature elects Lydia Gueiler president. She is overthrown by a military coup in 1980.
_1980: Eugenia Charles becomes the first female prime minister in the Americas when her party wins elections in Dominica
She serves until 1995.
_1984: Maria Liberia-Peters becomes prime minister when her party wins elections in the Netherlands Antilles.
She serves until 1986, then again from 1988 to 1991.
_1990: Supreme Court Justice Ertha Pascal-Trouillot is installed by army as interim president of Haiti. She leaves office in 1991 after election of Jean-Bertrand Aristide.
_1990: Violeta Chamorro, widow of slain newspaper publisher Pedro Joaquin Chamorro, elected president of Nicaragua. She serves until 1997. She is the first Latin American woman to win direct popular election as president.
_1993: Party chooses Kim Campbell as prime minister of Canada when Brian Mulroney resigns. She serves for 4 1/2 months.
_1997: Janet Jagan becomes prime minister of Guyana after death of her husband Cheddi Jagan. She is elected president later that year. Resigns in August 1999.
_1997: Vice President Rosalia Arteaga serves as president of Ecuador for two days after President Abdala Bucaram is forced from power.
_1999: Mireya Moscoso, widow of former president Arnulfo Arias, is elected president of Panama. She serves until 2004.
_2006: Michelle Bachelet is sworn in as president of Chile, becoming the first elected female leader in Latin America who didn't rise to power with the help of a powerful husband.
_2006: Party chooses Portia Simpson Miller to replace retiring Jamaican Prime Minister P.J. Patterson. She loses election in 2007.
_2006: Emily de Jongh-Elhage takes over as prime minister of the Netherlands Antilles.
_2007: Cristina Fernandez is sworn in as elected president of Argentina, taking over from husband Nestor Kirchner.

N'est il pas venu le temps où Barack Obama devrait etre élu président. Je pense que les américains ont besoin d'un changement , d'un réel espoir. On a eu droit à Bush Père et fils, J'ai un doute pour Mme Clinton ( son mari a été président).

Un haitien vivant en Séoul ou autre pays ayant un tel fuseau horaire nous permettra d'avoir toujours des membres en ligne. J'espère que l'on aura un de ces membres bientot.
