Cuban Meds Gauge Challenges in Haiti
Port-au-Prince, Dec 9 (Prensa Latina)
The successes of the Cuban medical aid in Haiti were discussed at the 8th Seminar opened by Haitian President Rene Preval.
Eight main papers plus 35 with free topics helped asses even the literacy campaign in Creole with the Cuban system “I Can” involving 700 people in 37 classrooms, adding to the program’s worldwide use.
Preval presented the 436 Cuban staff led by Doctor Carlos Garcia a Plaque for over 10 years of hard work and dedication with near 14 million consultations and some 108,000 labors.
The above also comprehends some 246,789 operations, including 26,978 from Vision Now Program, eye surgery provided for free to poor patients co-sponsored by Cuba and Venezuela.
President Preval reminded that Commander in Chief Fidel Castro offered collaboration to ease the critical health care situation in Haiti that ranks among the poorest countries in the world.
This medical aid includes scholarships in Cuba with 490 graduates. The graduates attending the seminar said they are ready to work where ever it is necessary.
Their incorporation to public health care has been critical due to the devastation caused by three cyclones that left thousands of homeless and threats of epidemic outbreak.
The debates covered the Cuban General Health Program in Haiti, Mother-Child Health, Infectious Transmissible Diseases, Chronic non Transmissible Illnesses and Vision Now Program.
Those are the key medical challenges for 2009 when ten new Diagnostic Centers will provide services with Cuban technology in buildings that Venezuelans will repair.
The guests to the seminar were Cuban and Venezuelan Ambassadors Raul Barzaga and Pedro Antonio Canino, and Doctor Gabriel Timote, general director of the local Health Ministry.
There were also representatives of the Venezuela-Cuba-Haiti Tripartite Commission, and the World and Pan American Health Organizations.

Re: Mesi pou sa Kiben yo ap fè an Ayiti.
I wish that somebody will show President Obama what the Cubans and the Venezuelans are doing in haiti in order for him to have a better understanding of the communist regime in Cuba and the socialist regime of President Chavez.I think Fidel Castro from the bottom of my heart.
To understand the plight of the poor peasants in haiti one has to live in the mountains where even water is a luxury. These cubans doctors are performing what even the haitian doctors who received their education freely in the State University refused to do.
I think the cuban's program shows clearly how to help the poors in haiti.Giving loans to the corrupt governments will never help those in need.help the peasants exploit their land, give them credit so they can buy fertilizers, tractors, and other euipments they need to produce more foof will be more helpful not only to the peasants ,but for the haitian people as a whole.
Help them exploit ther mines so they can produce alternative energies to cook their food will prevent the devastations caused by erosion.show them how to fish instead of giving them some fishes from time to time is a better way to help haiti.
